PALAVRAS-CHAVES:

Breast cancer, women, quality of life

PÁGINAS: 119
RESUMO:

Well-being degree within of quality of life indicators and encompasses both physical and emotional factors. Identification of the most important factors affecting overall well-being and functional capacity may possibility health care practitioners to target these symptoms and increase patients' quality of life. Objective: Assessment of the influence of the functional capacity in the breast cancer women quality of life.    Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study of 400 women divided into three groups – without (118), with locoregional (160) and distant metastasis (122). We used the EORTC QLQ - C30,   EORTC BR 23  and   Karnofsky Performance Status Scale (KPS) instruments to correlate the latter variables .Results: Regarding the socio-demographic patients  profile the predominant age groups were between 51 to 60 years 115 (28.8%) and 41 to 50 112 (28%); 204 (51%)primary education; 157 (39.3%)  married; 254 (63.3%)disease free and Catholic 348 (87%).  Concerning the clinical parameters; histological type of the tumor:   348 (87%) infiltrating ductal carcinoma, 306 (76. 5%) had done some prior treatment, and 396 (99%) were being in treatment. Women with distant metastasis presented lower KPS 75.3 (SD = 12.5) (p <0.001). Regarding the (EORTC-QLQ-C30), the mean functional scale for patients with distant metastases 57 (SD = 19) (p <0.001). It may be associated with the presence of distant metastasis decrease the functional capacity of the patient, limiting their ADLs. The average range of symptoms of patients with distant metastases 37 (SD = 20) (p <0.001). The scale of pain symptoms and fatigue showed the highest average 52 (SD = 36), and (SD = 30), respectively. Concerning the Global Health Scale, patients without metastasis had a mean of 62 (SD = 24), those with locoregional metastases 63 (SD = 21.4) and with distant metastasis 51.3 (SD = 24). For the group with distant metastasis, 105 (87%) had pain and the average KPS was 74 (SD = 12.0) p = 0.001.Women with distant metastases have an average 51.3 in global health scale, with a marked ratio of 70% with KPS (p <0.001). Conclusions: Breast cancer may be associated with decreased functional capacity due to the effects of the disease itself, especially advanced as the effects of treatment modalities compromising the quality of life.
