In this sense, the multiplicity of tourism knowledge often makes it difficult to understand the real abilities, that is, skills and competences, which govern the future graduate in the area, as well as the professional identification for the job market. Therefore, the general objective of the study is to understand the professional training and the skills of the tourist, in the perception of representatives of the tourist trade, coordinators and teachers of the tourism course in the state of Rio Grande do Norte; and as specific, to investigate the professional skills required in training; analyze the professional training of the tourism graduate; and evaluate the skills for professional performance of the bachelor. Thus, searching for an understanding of the respective universes, a qualitative and exploratory methodology was used, through documentary and content analysis. A semi-structured interview was conducted with the coordinators and professors representing the graduations in Tourism of the RN, and representatives of the "Tourist trade" of the RN. As a result, as a result, it was found that vocational training in tourism in higher education develops skills with an emphasis on planning and management, other studies on the subject should be analyzed to complement the research.
