Tourism, as an economic and socio-cultural activity influences the way of life of those who visit and those who are visited. It has been co-opted by political talks and actions as a means of development for people or nation. Popular festivities of ancient origins are still present today as cultural practice and are part of the tourist calendar of various cities in Brazil and the rest of the world. Many of them are based on some agricultural activity, therefore they occur in rural areas. Through qualitative research, made through field notes observation - where the speaker's written and spoken text will direct the questioning - this study will try to understand how popular festivals incorporate the rethoric of tourism as a means of Development, using the case of two festivals in the interior of Paraíba that proclaim economic and socio-cultural sustainability.
