RESUMO:

The course of the Zika virus (ZIKV) in Brazil was a benign disease until the increase in the cases of newborns with the Zika Congenital Syndrome (SCZ) in the Northeast in 2015. The Ministry of Health declared an emergency in public health of national importance, three months after inserting the diseases resulting from the ZIKV in the list of compulsory notification and finally the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency of international interest. Knowing that children with SCZ will possibly present physical, mental, intellectual, and / or sensory disabilities from childhood and throughout life and who will face various barriers, they may have their full and effective participation in the impaired society. Thus, the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (CIF) has become a significant tool for classifying living conditions and for promoting social inclusion policies. OBJECTIVE: to know the perceptions of the parents of children with SCZ regarding the barriers and facilitators of the physical, social and attitudes environment and how these influence participation in activities. This is an exploratory-descriptive nature, developed from the qualitative approach, influenced by the phenomenological studies in the field of Social Sciences in health. For data collection, the technique of the focal group and semi-structured interview were used. RESULTS: From the thematic analysis of the collected narratives, there were four categories: "He has a lot of desire to walk, he has a lot of desire to talk": Functions and structures of the body; "I am a mother and I understand everything he wants just to look": activities and participation of children with SCZ; "The health services in my city are a bit precarious": barriers of the social environment; "The future only knows God": expectations of mothers / fathers of children with SCZ. The narratives pointed out that we are far from establishing scientific certainties for the consequences of SCZ. However, government policies can facilitate health care and specialized health care, as well as reduce the social barriers to inclusion and social interaction of children with SCZ. Therefore, it is legitimate to treat this set of problems as a public health emergency in the connection between economic, social and cultural patterns and to get sick, since SCZ is related to the multiple vulnerabilities.
