IMPLEMENTATION OF THE WHO SAFE CHILDBIRTH CHECKLIST IN A HIGH-RISK MATERNITY HOSPITAL IN NORTHEAST BRAZIL
Checklist; maternal mortality; neonatal mortality; patient safety
Maternal and child mortality is still a serious public health problem in Brazil and around the world. Faced with this challenge, the World Health Organization proposes the use of the Safe Birth Checklist (LVPS) as a safety tool in childbirth care aimed at the main causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Objective: To implement the WHO Safe Birth Checklist (LVPS) in a highly complex maternity hospital in Maranhão and specifically adapt the LVPS to the local context; identify contextual factors that influence improvement projects; evaluate adherence to the LVPS after its implementation; and evaluate the adverse effects and good practices with the use of LVPS. Methodology: Quasi-experimental study to implement LVPS in a high-risk maternity hospital located in the Brazilian Northeast, through a set of actions: measuring the context for improvement projects; adaptation of the LVPS; collection of indicators in the baseline; team training, leadership support and post-intervention monitoring. Indicators of Good Practices (BP), adverse events (AE) in the mother and newborn and adherence to LVPS before and after the intervention will be evaluated. Data analysis will occur through run charts, considering a significance of 5%.
