Patient Safety; Assessment of Patient Safety Practices; Quality of Care; Quality Improvement.
Introduction: Since 2002, the World Health Organization has been developing actions focused on patient safety. Therefore, this is a topic of global importance that should be considered a priority in health services. In Brazil, it only began to be addressed in 2011 with the start of a movement for good practices in health services. In 2013, the actions became specific to patient safety through the publication of regulations focused on the topic. In this context, it is now possible to carry out an assessment of patient safety practices in hospitals with intensive care beds throughout the country. This is a process carried out annually using a standardized form, made available by the National Health Surveillance Agency for hospitals with Intensive Care Unit beds. Through this assessment, carried out in 2023, it was possible to see that hospitals with intensive care beds in Mato Grosso have low adherence to patient safety practices, which makes it necessary to develop multifaceted interventions to improve the quality of care in the state. Objective: To improve adherence to patient safety practices in hospitals with intensive care beds in the state of Mato Grosso. Methodology: This is a multi-method study carried out in two stages. The first consists of a cross-sectional study, with a qualitative approach, with the objective of identifying the main barriers to non-adherence to patient safety practices by healthcare professionals in hospitals with intensive care beds in the state of Mato Grosso. The second stage includes a quasi-experimental before-and-after study, without a control group, with a quantitative approach, to be carried out through quality improvement cycles to improve adherence and compliance with patient safety practices to be analyzed through the national assessment carried out by the National Health Surveillance Agency. The project has already been approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (CEP/UFRN), according to substantiated opinion No. 7,190,121, CAAE: 83375624.9.0000.5292. Expected results: It is expected that by the end of this project, the actions developed will be able to improve adherence and compliance with patient safety practices in hospitals with intensive care beds in the state of Mato Grosso.
