RESUMO:

The objective of this research is to evaluate and improve the quality of the drug preparation and administration processes in the pediatric clinic of a referral hospital in the state of Pernambuco. It is the implementation of a cycle of internal improvement, of the descriptive, observational and intervention type, using a quasi-experimental design, before-after, with a quantitative approach, to be developed in a reference unit in maternal and child health of the Hospital Barão de Lucena, Recife, Pernambuco. It is divided into 6 stages: 1) Identification and prioritization of the quality problem; 2) Problem analysis; 3) Development of quality assessment criteria; 4) Initial assessment of the conformity of the criteria; 5) Improvement intervention directed at the most problematic criteria; 6) Reassessment of the quality level to verify the effectiveness of the applied intervention. The data collection procedure will take place between November/2017 and January/2018, after approval of the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, through a form containing a structured instrument. In order to calculate the improvement between the evaluations, the calculation of the point estimate, with a confidence interval (95%) of the level of compliance of the criteria of the selected samples will be calculated, calculating the values of the absolute and relative improvements of each of the criteria, and for the statistical significance of the detected improvement a unilateral hypothesis test was performed by calculating the value of Z, considering as null hypothesis the absence of improvement, not considering when p value was <0.05. The results will be presented by graphs of the main quality defects identified in the two evaluations. For this, a Pareto chart will be used before-after, as it is a complete and informative graphical representation that facilitates the prioritization of intervention strategies. This research aims to contribute to identify failures in the preparation and administration of medicines as well as to provide subsidies to correct the failures by making the necessary interventions through a cycle of improvements, making medication therapy safer, introducing safety culture and incorporating the patient and family in this process.
