RESUMO:

In the seventies, Rio Grande do Norte’s Federal University went through an
intense technology improvement process in its academical and administrational
activities by purchasing commercial softwares developed by specialized
companies back then. At the same time, the Data Processing Department and
the Computer Science Department were created to manage the technology
improvement process. In the nineties, Rio Grande do Norte’s Federal University
realized the need to create an internal section which not only could manage
softwares, but also develop them according to the institution needs. The SINFO
(Superintendence of Informatics) in UFRN was created from the merger of the
NPD and the NCC as a unit to be responsible for the development of Integrated
Systems (SIG's). The Integrated Systems developed presented several
resources and functionalities which every university needed to manage it’s
activities and therefore Rio Grande do Norte’s Federal University began to
stablish cooperation deals without her federal educational institutions, leading
today to 46 active deals. In order to rescue the process of computerizing
academic activities UFRN, the present work in tends a historical rescue of the
technology improvement process in the Rio Grande do Norte’s Federal
University, as well as to trace the evolution of the academical systems
beginning from the Academical Control and ending on the Integrated System of
Academical Activities Management (SIGAA) focusing on the usability and the
human-computer inter action. To accomplish the mentioned purpose the oral
history technique was used based on the reports by the managers, developers
and systems’ users of Rio Grande do Norte’s Federal University and also the
documental and log’s analysis. The analysis results led to the following
conclusions: a remark able difficulty to the technology improvement implantation
on Rio Grande do Norte’s Federal University; the undisputed technological
evolution experimented on academical activities; the constant raising of humancomputer
inter actionably lowed by the systems development which also led to
a better usability of the Integrated System Management through the years.
Finally, it is concluded that the SIGAA is a system that has usability, since
through interaction with this system the user is easy to learn, use efficiency,
ease of storage and subjective satisfaction. Thus, the SIGAA promotes IHC not
only to the academic community UFRN, but also to civil society that relates to
the university through the use of SIGAA, evidenced by the increase in the
number of user interactions / system year after year, and observed in the
analysis of logs.
