SUMMARY:

Solar radiation promotes severe damage to the skin, as photo aging and cancer. To avoid this damage, the sunscreen products are used, since they protect the skin. These products are defined as cosmetics with ultraviolet filters in their composition. However, the products commonly found on the market have disadvantages in terms of high concentrations of filters, which may increase the undesirable effects on the user. Additionally, these are not completely effective against radiation, requiring the use of products that contain antioxidants and skin regenerating activities. Thus, the objective of this study was to develop a photoprotective nanoemulsion based on linseed oil and avobenzone and tris-biphenyl triazine (nano) ultraviolet filters, to obtain a formulation with a low concentration of filters with broad-spectrum protection. For that, a phase diagram was constructed to determine the concentrations of the nanoemulsion of the study. Ultraviolet filters were added to the chosen nanoemulsion, characterized, and evaluated for stability. The NELO, NEAVO, NETBPT, and NEUVMIX formulations had droplet sizes equal to 160.1, 160.3, 129.0, and 132.5, with polydispersity indexes of 0.38, 0.39, 0.,23, and 0.23, and zeta potential of -17.30, -18.92, -25.09 and -23.99, respectively, and remained stable during the study. The association of filters with linseed oil increased 40 % of the NEUVMIX formulation sun protection factor (SPF), which presented SPF equal to 21, indicating positive synergism between this oil and the filters. In conclusion, the linseed oil nanoemulsion with ultraviolet filters showed desirable results for the development of photoprotective formulations.
