RESUMO:

Scorpion stings are primary cause of envenoming in endemics countries for these animals, like Brazil. The anti-sera is a neutralizing medicine capable of protecting susceptible people, but its production is target of improvement, considering the evolution in adjuvants and the difficulties of collecting such rare and scarce venom with considerable toxicity. The scorpion venom has complex composition and an adjuvant capable of increase antigen recognition in a more broad stimulating action is welcome, as is the case of delivery systems based on nanotechnology. The nanotechnology has been demonstrating its feature increasing cell uptake, and this activity with administration in rich presenting cells tissues, like subcutaneous injection, may direct antigen loaded nanoplatforms. In this research we pursued innovation developing nanoemulsions to act as delivery platforms for scorpion venom antigens to be tested in mice. The nanotechnology studies reached the fundamental levels that could influence nanoemulsions properties, and we design those systems to adsorb antigens via electrostatic bonds at particles surface, which enables adsorption of a vast number of molecules with charged groups, like the low immunogenic peptides and proteins that integrate the venom and carry its toxicity. The adjuvant performance was evaluated testing the proposed formulation parallel to conventional adjuvant aluminum hydroxide immunizing mice, which in fact demonstrated the nanotechnology feature to actuate as adjuvant for venom antigens and the capacity of enhance this activity and overcome conventional adjuvant using cationic poly(ethyleneimine) surface loaded nanoemulsion
