Objective: To find out the content validity of a knowledge assessment instrument for undergraduates and health professionals about basic life support measures (BLS). Method: This is a methodological study carried out between August and September 2016. An instrument of 13 questions was constructed with a review of the American Heart Association (AHA) literature and protocols of BLS 2015, under the theoretical support of the learning objectives of Bloom´s taxonomy and Ausubel´s meaningful learning. This proposal was submitted for content validity by judges selected from the non-probabilistic technique in the network. Through 09 Pasquali´s evaluation requirements, each question was analyzed regarding the suitability of its content. The Kappa index (K) > 0.65 and the Content Validity Index (CVI),> 0.90 were considered valid. Results: Nurses and doctors participated as judges. It was verified that in 33 suggestions to improve the questions by the judges, 18 were accepted, three were rejected and 12, after analysis of CVI and Kappa values were guidelines for the exclusion of the questions. Most of the suggestions were related to consistency, clarity, objectivity, simplicity and vocabulary requirements. Thus, the questions (5, 6 and 13) with a K or CVI index lower than the established in this study were removed at the end, clarity being the requirement with lower values of adequacy. After the removal of the mentioned questions, in the overall evaluation, the final instrument for evaluation of knowledge in BLS had ten questions and obtained a CVI of 0.95 and Kappa of 0.81, being an excellent level of agreement among the judges. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the BLS knowledge assessment instrument can be considered validated for its content with excellent CVI and Kappa scores, which may help emergency education (on this topic) for students and health professionals.
