SUMMARY:

In contemporary times, linguistic research increasingly focuses on analyzing texts produced in various social and discursive formations as a unit of analysis, considering language as a social practice whose form and function are adapted to usage. In this context, studies of the linguistic and discursive strategies of specific texts stimulate scientific interest in the Language and Law interface, particularly with respect to linguistic data generated in legal domains that have the potential to contribute to our understanding of language. Our general objective is to investigate the compositional structure, enunciation, and argumentation of bills and laws, with specific attention to the pragmatic level of the legal genres that constitute our research corpus. Our specific goals are to identify, describe, analyze, and interpret: a) the textual plan and textual sequences in the data; b) the enunciative responsibility and polyphonic cohesion in the texts; c) the argumentative orientation and pragmatic elements conferred on the genres studied to apprehend meanings. Our research is anchored in the theoretical-methodological proposal of Textual Analysis of Discourse with Adam (2011, 2019, 2020, 2022), drawing on studies of the levels of Enunciation with Ducrot (1987), Guentchéva (1996), Rabatel (2016, 2021), Flores (2008), Authier-Revuz (2004), Fiorin (2016), and the proponents of the Scandinavian Theory of Linguistic Poliphony - ScaPoLine, Nølke, Fløttum, and Nóren (2004); Argumentation with Aristotle's Rhetoric (1959), Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (1996), and Amossy (2008), as well as works that deal with argumentation and sociodiscursive legal formation with Pinto (2010, 2016), Cabral (2014, 2017), Lourenço (2008, 2013), Rodrigues, Passeggi and Silva Neto (2010, 2014, 2016), Rodrigues and Passeggi (2016), Rodrigues (2017, 2021, 2022), Gomes (2014), Medeiros (2016), and Fernandes (2016); Pragmatics with Searle (1995), Vanderveken (2005), and Adam (2020), and Pragma-Dialectics, with Eemeren (2010, 2015, 2018). In terms of methodology, this doctoral research takes a qualitative, interpretive approach, employs an inductive analysis method, and is, in nature, exploratory and documental. Our preliminary analysis have found a fixed text plan structure organized through descriptive, narrative, argumentative, and explanatory textual sequences, contributing to the prototype of the genres and the argumentative orientation of the texts. As initial results of the study of enunciation, we understand that the language markers and voices used by the proponents and authors of the laws confer varying degrees of engagement with the propositional content of the texts. Therefore, we interpret that these levels indicate the argumentative orientation of the statements for the pragmatic dimension of language, favoring the usual understanding of legal texts. Thus, we hope that the results of our research can contribute to the unveiling of legal language and assist in the learning and teaching of texts with significant social importance, as they can imply changes in the legal order of the country.
