SUMMARY:

The inadequate management of agro-industrial waste is a growing challenge. Among these, the by-product of tannin extraction stands out in Brazil, which is rich in lignocellulosic material that can be used as a source of bioenergy and/or bioproducts. In order to value this byproduct, this work proposes the synthesis of a bioadditive from the byproducts of tannin extraction from the species Anadenanthera colubrina and Anacardium occidentale L. for application in cement paste used in the petroleum industry. The lignocellulosic byproduct was characterized to determine the moisture content, ash, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin content by acid and neutral detergent fiber extraction methods and chromatographic methods (HPLC), Klason method to isolate and quantify lignin. The bioadditive was synthesized using sodium hydroxide and persulfate, via the alkaline and alkaline oxidative route, respectively. The effectiveness of the synthesized bioadditive was evaluated regarding the effect of delaying the setting time and mechanical resistance of cement pastes, through rheological and consistometry tests. This study not only promotes the circular economy, but also contributes to the generation of jobs and income in the additives and tannins market, integrating with the cement industry, which is one of the largest emitters of CO2.
