SUMMARY:

Auxemma oncocalyx (Allemão) Baill., popularly known as pau-branco, is a species native to the Caatinga, with socioeconomic and environmental potential, however, there are few silvicultural studies on one species. Therefore, we aim to analyze in the present work as biometric characteristics of diaspores and seeds through the biometric manual and by digital image processing, in order to compare them, as well as to evaluate the in vitro and ex vitro germination of A. oncocalyx. In the evaluation of biometrics, 300 diaspores and 300 seeds were used, applying a biometric manual and a digital one. Subsequently, an ex vitro emergency was carried out, testing mechanical (scarification in different regions of the day) and chemical (immersion in sulfuric acid for 90 and 180 min). Finally, test the germination in vitro, using different compositions of the M&S culture medium and addition of sucrose. The results showed that digital image processing is a viable and fast technique in using the biometric parameters of A. oncocalyx fruits and seeds. Chemical and mechanical controls on diaspores do not influence seed destruction (0.33%). A composition of the culture medium influenced the germination percentage, with a maximum observed value of 96% with 6 g L-1 of sucrose and 0.90 g L-1 of M&S medium. Thus, the propagation of an A. oncocalyx can be successfully carried out when the seeds are germinated in vitro and the digital image processing denotes the solidity and the application with a view to the evaluation of quantitative values of seeds and fruits of the species.
