Urban forest fragments play an important role in the quality of life of the population living near these sites, although these sites suffer great anthropic pressures. In addition, little attention is paid to them in urban planning, which results in conflicts with urban components because of the poor choice of species, most of them which are exotic. It is assumed that the species composition of Natal urban vegetation is formed mostly by native and exotic tree species, most of which need phytosanitary maintenance and adaptation of species to the urban space, as well as urban planning adequate for the selection of species. For this reason, the objective was to identify the floristic composition of the squares of the southern zone of Natal. For this, the census will be done on the species that make up the 90 squares of the south zone, for each species will be collected witness material. Ten squares will be drawn for the analysis of plant cover and phytosanitary, the data will be tabulated in a spreadsheet and it will specify data such as diameter at breast height (DBH), degrading agents and if there is conflict with urban components. They will be calculated abundance, dominance and absolute and relative frequencies, richness by the Shannon index and cover value of the trees. It is expected that the vegetation found in the squares is composed mostly of exotic trees with low density and consequently low cover value, which are frequent, with high dominance and low diversity of species found, which require phytosanitary maintenance. It is believed that it is possible to provide through this study scientific basis for measures aimed at public policies to be carried out in these spaces, so that they fulfill their social function properly.
