The plasma is formed by a volume of ionized gases and liquids inside a vacuum chamber placed at low pressure, and receives the activity of the electric field created from a dissimilarity between two electrodes (anode + and cathode-) inside the camera. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of plasma generated by a dielectric barrier (DBD) discharge source on the physical, chemical and physiological characteristics of Pityrocarpa moniliformis (Benth) and Senna siamea (Lam) seeds. The seeds were submitted to plasma obtained by dielectric barrier in coplanar plates, with a voltage of 10 kv and a frequency of 4,000 Hertz for 10 minutes. The seeds of both species had their physical structures analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Chemical analyzes were performed using the transformed Fourier FTIR infrared spectrometer with whole seeds, to obtain wavelengths in the region between 400 to 4000 cm-1. For physiological analysis, a completely randomized design with four replications of 25 seeds for each species was used, in a controlled environment at 25 ºC. For that, the seeds were distributed on germitest paper soaked with distilled water, for 18 days, being evaluated the germination percentage. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and the treatment means were compared at a significance level of 5% probability using the Tukey test. All analyzes were performed using the system software for statistical analysis of agronomic trials (AgroEstat) version 1.0. With that, the result of the application of plasma in the seeds of both species proved to be satisfactory, modified the physical and chemical structure, providing an increase in the percentage of germination. With the results obtained, it is concluded that the DBD plasma was presented as an efficient technique, modified the physical structure, and altered the chemical and physiological properties of seeds of both species.
