Caatinga occupies an area that corresponds to 11% of the national territory, where over the years it has suffered from the increase of deforestation. The comprehension of the study of forest dynamics in protected areas enables future predictions regarding plant community development. Based on this principle, the present work aimed to evaluate possible floristic and structural changes in the adult and regenerating arbustive/arboreal components between 2015 and 2019. The study was conducted in Açu National Forest, located in Assú/RN municipality. In the sampling of 4400 m² were allocated in 2019 eleven permanent plots of 20x20m (400m²) each, using geographic coordinates of the sample units installed in 2015. Then all woody individuals with a diameter at breast height DBH ≥ 6 cm were measured. For the natural regeneration study, 1x20 m subplots were installed within each plot. Measuring the individuals' height and were later classified into four size classes. In the two years, the highest density values were found for Handroanthus impetiginosus and Cenostigma pyramidale species, in 2019 these species represent 24.53% and 22.57% respectively, in relation to the total area density. In 2019 the number of individuals was higher (1267) compared to 2015 (1166), thus, the largest number of individuals found for the 2019 year indicated a basal area value of 5,388 m².ha-1, while mean diameter and mean height were 4.87 cm and 4.70 m, respectively. In natural regeneration, the species with the highest density in all size classes were Handroanthus impetiginosus (114 ind.) And Bauhinia cheilantha (32 ind.). For 2015 these same species obtained the highest densities as well (H. impetiginosus, 78 ind. And B. cheilantha, 19 ind.). Between 2015 and 2019 some changes were observed in floristic and structural of adult arbustive/arboreal components and forest regenerating, these changes are positive, as it shows the forest development, indicating that it is being conserved, and the Flona Açu conservation projects objectives are being achieved.
