RESUMO:

The contamination of a course water is not always easily detectable. The adsorption is one of the newest technologies employed in the removal of contaminants from water and that has been gaining quite prominently. In the treatment of effluents, the adsorption with activated charcoal (CA) presents itself as an efficient method and of low cost. The main advantage of the production of CA is the exploitation of such waste that would be discarded, many times, so inadequate. In this context, the present study aims at the exploitation of agro-industrial wastes (castor bean cake), in the production of activated charcoal with adsorbing characteristics, which subsequently may be used in the application of treatment of industrial effluents. CA will be produced with different concentrations of activants, time and temperature, from castor bean cake. These CAs will be characterized as yield, zero charge pH (pHpcz), Mesoporosity, Scanning Electron Microscopy (MEV) and N2 adsorption. After the characterization, methylene blue adsorption tests will be carried out to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the methylene blue and the results will be applied to the Langmuir and Freundlich equations to verify the fit of the data. It is expected to obtain an activated charcoal that presents good characteristics, especially good capacity to adsorb liquid or gaseous waste, to be used in the treatment of water in different conditions of contamination.
