SUMMARY:

Covid-19 is an acute respiratory infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, with potential for seriousness, high transmissibility and global distribution, responsible for the current pandemic. Data on the disease indicate that the elderly and people with pre-existing clinical conditions, such as obesity, diabetes mellitus and hypertension, are at high risk of developing the severe form of the disease. In view of the sanitary emergency situation, recommendations for the prevention of contagion by covid-19 were adopted, including social distancing and the reinforcement of hygiene measures. Primary Health Care, care coordinator and organizer of the Care Networks, is responsible for ensuring continued care. With some restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the number of people with high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus who attended Primary Health Care services had a significant reduction compared to previous years. This research project aims to analyze the monitoring of people with hypertension and diabetes mellitus by Primary Health Care in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The analysis of the monitoring of people with hypertension and diabetes mellitus will be identified through focus groups, which will have as participants the health professionals responsible for the care in Primary Health Care, local managers and community leaders of the ascribed territory of the family health teams of the five health districts in the municipality. The analysis of the focus group discussions will be carried out using Bardin's content analysis technique. As a product of the study, a guiding instrument will be built to guide people with hypertension and diabetes mellitus through primary health care in the context of the pandemic and post-pandemic, based on the weaknesses and opportunities for improvement identified in the focus groups.
