THE BODY IN ARTISTIC SWIMMING: A COMPASS OF TECHNIQUE, AESTHETICS AND ART IN MERLEAU-PONTY'S PHENOMENOLOGY
Water Sports; Metaphysical Mind-Body Relations; Physical Education and Training.
Thinking about the movement of the body in the water is to admire the strength of that body in life. This is research guided by a qualitative approach, with a cross-section of the studied population that will use, in the theoretical-methodological process, Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology. The study's general objective is to expand the phenomenological understanding of the body in Nado Artístico performances. Its specific objectives are: to understand the conceptions of Artistic Swimming athletes about the body; reflect on the body tension experienced during training and competition in this sport; analyze the technical, aesthetic and artistic meanings of the body in Artistic Swimming; and understand how Nado Artístico performances can expand knowledge of the body for Physical Education. The research participants will be athletes from the Senior category of a traditional sports club in Brazil. Data collection will be carried out through individual semi-structured interviews and direct observation. Data analysis will be done through description, reduction and interpretation of the phenomenon studied. In this perspective, the body and artistic swimming will be interpreted and understood as singular senses and meanings are created about them, involving the understanding of significant registers and seeking to delimit cores of meanings in the interpretation of gestures, physiognomies and intersubjective understandings about sports performances. in the light of phenomenology as an epistemic current. It is expected to contribute to Physical Education, providing support to rethink the concepts that guide the sport in question, in order to understand its weaknesses and potential, discussed from technical, aesthetic and artistic aspects. Thus, these aspects are relevant to expand conceptions about the body without disregarding the contexts of motor development, competitiveness and creativity of the athletes themselves. In this way, this study seeks to fill the persistent gaps in the literature given the scarcity of empirical investigations that take a sensitive look at the topic, which is sometimes treated from a dichotomous and reductionist view of the body.
