RESUMO:

The aging process faced by the entire Brazilian population during the 20th century, resulting from changes in the processes of demographic transition, epidemiological and nutritional status, has evidenced an increase in life expectancy of individuals. In 1980, the life expectancy at 60 years of age was 16.4 years, increasing to 21.8 years in 2013, representing a gain of 33%. It should be noted that these gains in years of life has not been accompanied by a good state of health. In this context, there is an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases among the elderly, especially if the Diabetes mellitus and its complications. The objective of this study is to analyze the regional differentials in life expectancy free of Diabetes Mellitus at 60 years of age and the factors associated with the prevalence of the disease in the elderly population. This is a cross-sectional study, adopting as a source of information the microdata from the National Health Survey in 2013.The study population are elderly people throughout the national territory. It is estimated that the life expectancy free of Diabetes from the method of Sullivan, jointly with the employment of tables of mortality of 2013 and the prevalence of the disease, with its confidence interval (95% CI). The Poisson regression with robust variance will be adopted to analyze the factors associated with the prevalence of the disease.In the data analysis using the R statistical program-3.3.2 for Windows (The R Project for Statistical Computing).The preliminary results, describes the main sociodemographic characteristics of the interviewed selected, approximately 67.3% were women, white in color, the age group of 65 - 69 years, 51.6% live without a spouse and 75.6% were without education or basic education, of these 20.4% autorreferia received the diagnosis of diabetes.This population analyzed for 60 years, has an average of 21.3 years of life expectancy for both sexes and regions, being 6.3 years of life expectancy free of diabetes.
