The city constitutes an environment of interests and ideals, where they can generate divergences, which in turn draw social conflicts. With regard to this theme, one issue that stands out too far is the use and occupation of land and how it has been unequally appropriated by private enterprise. In this context, the low-income population feels forced to live on “city margins”, in often inadequate places such as slopes, hills or river banks and even in unhealthy health conditions, with no basic sanitation, exhaustion. in the open and lack of collection of household waste, among many other factors. In this sense, it is proposed in this project, the mapping of three urban areas in Rio Grande do Norte. The purpose is to identify the recurrent flooding area of both urban areas. For this, however, the cities to be chosen were Pendências, Carnaubais and Alto do Rodrigues, which are intersected by the Piranhas Açu River, and are located downstream of the Armando Ribeiro Gonçalves dam, having recorded these municipalities, a history of such phenomena. Census tracts defined by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) were used as territorial units, and with flood spots, the next step was the overlapping of social data in order to find the most vulnerable sectors in the face of critical events. of the floods of the Piranhas Açu river in RN. The scope of this study aims to work in the conceptual light with regard to the geosystemic processes, which is supported by the use of modeling resources to portray reality. For this perspective we will take as base the methodology that is based on the configuration of a socioeconomic index to be obtained through a weighted average of the variables under study. With this we will identify the Flood Risk with the delimitation of areas with Hazard-related Vulnerability (Risk and Exposure), which in this case will be the flood of the river.
