RESUMO:

The increasing number of pollutants is one of the reasons for the problem of air pollution, which has an impact on the climate, human health and the environment. Air quality in a given region is driven by a combination of weather conditions and local emissions. The latter can be analyzed using emission inventories, tools that quantify emission rates from various sources, in order to serve the basis for evaluating atmospheric chemistry. In this context, for the first time, the emissions generated by the global inventory Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) will be evaluated and studied in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), through the emission model of the atmospheric chemical model European Air Pollution Dispersion (EURAD-IM). The adjustment of the EDGAR inventory will be carried out for two grids, the first one with 75 km resolution and the second with 15 km resolution, in which the date will be processed in the format necessary for the estimates. Through QuantumGIS software, the downscaling will be performed in the state of Rio Grande do Norte generating emission maps for the region. Thus, the major cities, major vehicular traffic routes, industrial poles, biomass-burning regions and other polluting activities will be identified. Checking the accuracy of their spatial distribution, ie, assessing if the inventory represents the different sources of emission correctly. With the accomplishment of this work will be possible to a greater understanding of the behavior of the pollutants, as well as the knowledge of the places and periods of greater relevance in the contribution of the different sources. An improvement is obtained both in the data source and in the knowledge of the air quality in the RN, in which the emission rates will be adjusted, generating the most realistic emissions inventory for the region
