RESUMO:

Brazilian cities are vulnerable to climate change, and it is extremely important to know the specificity of the climate of each one of them in order to promote adequate mitigation and adaptation strategies for local conditions. With more than 50% of the population living in urban areas, this portion of the population is the one who most feels the changes in the climate, especially in temperature. Assessing the main causes of temperature elevation in urban areas, it is pointed out that changes in soil use and coverage, removal of vegetation and the use of materials that cause greater heat retention lead to an imbalance in the energy balance by raising the temperatures near the ground, forming a phenomenon denominated of island of heat, where a certain region or the whole city has temperatures higher than the surrounding areas, thus forming pockets with differentiated climatic aspects. But these changes in the climate can be mitigated or even mitigated if appropriate measures are taken, but for this it is necessary to know the local climatic characteristics, to know how to act on their specifics. In this sense, this work seeks to identify the formation of heat islands in the metropolitan regions of Brazil and its relationship with the meteorological and biophysical characteristics of the city, from 2000 to 2010. As well as estimating the heat island intensities in the urban environment due to characteristics of urban occupation. Remote sensing data from three different platforms will be used: from the Earth satellite, obtaining the information about surface temperature, occupation by vegetation and surface albedo; The Landsat satellite data will provide information on the biophysical aspects, such as surface temperature, NDVI, NDBI, MI; From the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite, information on the rainfall of the different metropolitan regions will be obtained. The data of the TRMM satellite will be worked to obtain the dry and rainy period of the different metropolitan regions, in order to minimize the presence of clouds during the collection of information from the other satellites. The MODIS data will be used to obtain the intensity of the heat island and its relation with the data of wind intensity, rainfall and soil occupation (NDVI, Albedo and urban dispersion) in the different metropolitan regions, while satellite information Landsat, will be worked using mixed models to develop estimates of heat island intensity based on urban biophysical aspects. Preliminary results were obtained for Brasília metropolitan region, in which the mean intensity of the island of daytime heat was varied over time but did not exceed 0.25 ° C. With maximum temperatures around 34 ° C. The spatial distribution of temperatures shows the proximity between urban areas and regions with higher temperatures. With the application of the mixed models one can expect to have an understanding of how biophysical variables are related to temperature anomalies and that this helps in guiding urban space planning by avoiding the intensificat
