RESUMO:

The region of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere, or correspondingly the region of the tropopause, has been identified as being of fundamental importance to the climate, to physics and to chemistry of the atmosphere. The altitude of the tropopause has a latitudinal variation, being 7-10 km in polar regions and 16-18 km in the tropics, in addition to being higher, tropical tropopause is cooler, while polar is lower and warmer , but little is known about the equatorial tropopause. In this context, the present work aims at a detailed investigation of the equatorial tropopause characteristics in the Natal-RN region, using meteorological balloon radiosonde data released by the Barreira do Inferno (CLBI), initially between 2010 and 2014. In this way comparisons were made between the experimental data and the theorists, generated from the semi-empirical model MSIS-90. In the first months of the study, a total of 1817 cases were verified, 932 daytime probes and 885 nocturnal probes, comparing the minimum temperatures of the tropopause, the thickness of the tropopause and the variations suffered by this region with the seasons. It is intended to analyze a larger time series to corroborate the initial results, since CLBI measures were made available since 1996. In addition, it is planned to integrate these data with PROCEOS software (Atmospheric Ocean Events Characterization Program). The results that will be obtained with this research, have great importance for aviation, studies in climatic sciences and for aeronomia, and in future publications, a change in the model can be suggested.
