RESUMO:

Man has always sought to install his infrastructure of occupation, defense and survival even closer and focused on the Coastal Zones. From this perspective, the growth of large urban centers has been associated with this geographic portion of space. Ponta Negra Beach, located in the south of the city of Natal (RN), illustrates well the process practiced by the man of occupation of the lands, through the exploitation of natural resources, imposing changes in the landscape with the deforestation, the practice of cuts and embankments for urbanization, speculation of the price of land and the installation of numerous economic activities along the beach. The implementation of public policies that are practically unique to tourism also have significant environmental impacts in coastal areas. The dynamics of the occupation of Ponta Negra caused favorable conditions to the increasing erosive process that emerged physical damages to the beach boardwalk of the capital of Rio Grande do Norte. The research had the general objective of constructing an integrated analysis of the Coastal Zone of Ponta Negra Beach, Natal / RN. Two specific objectives were also defined: the first is to build a profile of human occupation and coastal events (Tide, Precipitation, winds) over 44 years, and the second was to identify the morphological changes of the beach from 1969 to 2016. For the database was extracted from the journalistic collection of Tribuna do Norte Journal, from 1950 to 2016 and later related to the behavior of precipitation (Meteorological Station of UFRN-INMET) of the same period. The sediment volume values of the morphological profile were collected locally in the 12-month period (2012/2013). In the identification of the previous features, 1969 aerial photographs of the Cruzeiro do Sul Air Service were used, and the current ones were exported from the Google Earth PRO software. Methodologically, it was necessary to use remote sensing, digital image processing in GIS and content analysis, and applied to the statistics in the various data and correlations. The process of evaluation of the coastal features showed that in 1969 the urban spot represented 16.4% of the area of the total space cut and in 2016 more than 60%. This asserts the hypothesis that the destruction of environmental protection features has potentiated the erosive process. The other classes presented a decrease of area, as opposed to the urban spot. In the vegetation class, there is a decrease from 37.2% to 13.6% and this composition is responsible for the fixation of the unconsolidated sediments. From the 50 to 2016 there is an increase in the number of records found and this significant increase is noticed in the change from the 60s to 70s, in which respectively they had 1270 and 4903. At the end of the 44 years analyzed, there were 15,484 reports. Precipitation represented 50% of the events reported by the newspaper mentioned above, and this reinforces the attention given to this variable and the association of coastal events. The result of the erosion monitoring in the beach profile and the monthly cumulative precipitation shows a negative correlation.
