SUMMARY:

Over the past thirty years, significant transformations have occurred in labor relations, trade unionism, and union communication itself (Giannotti, 2014). The advance of neoliberalism and the so-called platform capitalism (Srnicek, 2017; Scholz, 2017; Kalil, 2020) has expanded informality, fragmented workers' organizations, and produced an even more precarious digital-age proletariat (Antunes, 2020). Under the effects of the platformization of labor (Grohmann, 2020), an important segment of the working class began to experiment with new forms of union struggle through media convergence (Jenkins, 2009; Canclini, 2008; Jost, 2011) and the possibilities of existing and resisting within digital environments. In light of this scenario, we seek to understand how platform-based worker organizations use new technologies to self-organize and communicate their resistance. To this end, this research proposes to analyze the communication strategies and processes developed by app-based couriers and drivers in Natal/RN between 2020 and 2025, addressing the transformations and challenges posed by platform capitalism. The investigation focuses on the group of motorcycle couriers Galera da Pressão (GDP); the Union of App-Based Transport Workers of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (SINTAT/RN); the Association of App-Based Motorcycle and Bicycle Workers of Natal and the Metropolitan Region (ATAMB); and the Voice of App-Based Workers Association of Rio Grande do Norte (AVAP/RN).
