SUMMARY:

Web series are independent serialized audiovisual narratives that emerge from the context of convergence culture and are produced for distribution on the internet through online video-sharing platforms. This format has gained space in media production by exploring fictional plots that cater to a niche market, with YouTube serving as its primary exhibition window. In this context, Brazilian LGBTI+ web series bring gender and sexuality dissidences to the screen, inaugurating new visibilities that break away from heteronormative standards and contribute to the tensioning of the hegemonic media logic and, consequently, the prevailing social imaginary. This research aims to mapping these web series, produced between 2014 and 2024, and subsequently discuss how lesbian web series, in the unfolding of their creation, present the subjectivities and experiences of these women, re-signifying audiovisual narratives. The data collection is guided by a methodological protocol, which is further enhanced by my practice of wandering. I allow myself to remain open to the emergence of the new throughout the research journey and to be influenced by the concerns of my readings and the free navigability of the internet, exploring the process of searching for web series and discussions about LGBTI+ identities in Brazilian television productions with fluidity. In this current phase, I contextualize the landscape of independent productions in Brazil and present a historical overview of web series, divided into seasons, with contributions from Romero and Centellas (2008), Lopéz Mera (2010), Morales Morante and Hernández (2012), Aeraphe (2013), Zanetti (2013), and Hergesel (2016, 2018, 2021). I then proceed to characterize the contemporary Brazilian web series based on the observation of three sets of variables: format and narrative, distribution and business model, and consumption and spectatorship. Finally, I discuss how I wandered through the paths of research until the establishment of the categories of analysis, concluding this report with the proposal of a preliminary summary for the continuation of the investigation.
