SUMMARY:

Purpose - To identify and critically analyze studies that address the Production System Design (PSD) in construction using Building Information Modeling (BIM), understanding the current state and visualizing future directions between these two themes.

Design/methodology/approach - Using a Systematic Literature Review, 16 journals articles published from 2010 to 2019 were selected and based on them, categories and suggestions for future research were proposed.

Findings - In addition to traditional bibliometric parameters and a network of keywords, four thematic categories and a reflection on the final sample of the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) are proposed pointing out future paths.

Originality - This research sheds light on the still implicit relationship between the PSD and BIM found in the literature. The paper contributes to the development of the interaction between these themes, in addition to optimizing the PSD process for researchers and professionals in the construction sector.
