SUMMARY:

Analyzes the conceptions of the backlands as used in the historiography produced in the master's and doctoral courses of the Postgraduate Programs in History at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Federal University of Ceará (UFC), and Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), between 1974 and 2022. The aim is to discuss, through the application of bourdieusian theoretical-methodological principles related to the theory of social fields, how the dynamics of social agents in the field of History are reflected in the operations of this historiography and which conceptions of the backlands are implied in these productions. The discursive analysis of this production as a whole will use the historiographical operation as an analytical tool, focusing on the social place of production, the research procedures adopted, and the writing resulting from the final course work. The documentary corpus consists of (25) doctoral theses, (49) master's dissertations, and (190) CVs of students and teachers directly related to the authorship, supervision and examination of these works, in addition to periodic evaluation reports of the PPG in the Area of History, carried out by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).
