SUMMARY:

Discussions about innovation and creative destruction in the segment of travel agencies and operators in times of a pandemic are essential to understand the resumption of tourist activity in the face of the covid-19 crisis, which the sector was directly affected. Thus, the general objective of this research is to analyze how innovation and creative destruction is perceived and implemented in the segment of travel agencies and operators in times of pandemic, and as specific objectives to identify the managerial and structural characteristics of travel and tourism agencies and operators. from Rio Grande do Norte; (company size, time of existence, operations), describe the processes and transformations faced by travel agencies and operators throughout the systemic crisis of the pandemic, identify the managerial and strategic innovations adopted by companies for maintenance and growth, present the points of ruptures and changes that require a change of posture and action by companies. The study is exploratory, with a qualitative analysis method carried out through on-site visits, and through interviews with semi-structured questionnaires. As a data analysis technique, Bardin's content analysis was performed (2009). The universe of research addressed is companies from Rio Grande do Norte accredited by AMBAV and CADASTUR. In this way, 450 companies were reached. As it will not be possible to research all the elements, due to the availability of time, a non-probabilistic convenience sample was established within the population studied, covering between 8 to 10 agencies and 1 to 3 operators, who are willing to collaborate with the research. . The work consists of an ongoing study whose main hypothesis is the implementation of the author Schumpeter's creative destruction theory as the main strategy of companies in the pandemic period.
