SUMMARY:

Due to the nature of its operations, tourism has faced several economic and environmental crises, and more recently, the health crisis of COVID-19, which changed the way of living in society and brought challenges to organizational management. In this sense, work relations have been weakened, highlighting the need of development practices aimed at quality of working life, as a way to reduce stressors and poor working conditions, in addition to strengthening protection against risks to the employee's health. Given this context, the present research aims to analyze the quality of working life in means of accommodation, from the implementation of health safety protocols resulting from the pandemic COVID-19. The foundation of the proposed theme is supported by the BPSO-96 model, by Limongi-França (1996) with a biopsychosocial focus and by Walton's (1973) eight criteria for assessing quality of working life. Therefore, the starting point was a systematic literature review, based on the Knowledge Development Process - Constructivist (ProKnow-C) methodology. The empirical investigation was carried out through a qualitative approach, with the method of multiple case studies in a hotel located in Ponta Negra and two resorts on the via Costeira in Natal/RN, combined with semi-structured interviews with HR managers, lodging/quality coordinators, receptionists and chambermaids, as well as documentary research and participant observation. The data were examined through thematic content analysis, proposed by Bardin (1977) and methodological triangulation between different methods, which made it possible to show that the biosecurity protocols of COVID-19 were adequate to the environments and offered more care and safety to workers to perform their functions. It is concluded, therefore, that although they have contributed to an increase in workload and emotional stress, the protocols implemented had a positive impact, because they brought confidence when returning to their activities. The research brings contributions to people management, since the dimensions of the BPSO model that were most present in the employees' perception were identified, and points were made for improvements on QWL.  From this knowledge produced, managers may have a practical direction and define policies that directly reach the needs and satisfaction of workers.
