BIG AREA: Ciências Sociais Aplicadas
AREA: Turismo
SUMMARY:

The work proposes to present a discussion about the value of cachaça as a cultural heritage and its relationship with tourist activities in the State of Rio Grande do Norte / Brazil, and in Portugal, where the wine routes are already consolidated, but the brandy is seen as a by-product does not have the due recognition and appreciation as the Portuguese wine and sweets. In spite of all its historical and economic importance that made the wine itself gain its current prominence. Supported by a discussion based on historical studies related to the tourism sector, especially with regard to gastronomy, Brazilian cachaça and Portuguese brandy define themselves not only as an important tool for the construction of identities, but also as a capable element to weave social, political and economic relations. That is, a tourist product capable of providing new destinations. For such analysis it is necessary a comparative study between the two realities (Rio Grande do Norte / Brazil and Portugal). In the Brazilian case, the research includes five stills located in the eastern regions of Potiguar and Seridó, which offer significant historicity and production for the State of Rio Grande do Norte. To define the cut, it was necessary to seek to refine this selection, especially when dealing with historical facts and memories of the owners of these establishments. In the Portuguese case, based on research by the University of Lisbon, 11 visitation points were selected, which are part of the D’Ouro Wine Route. Thus, it is necessary to consider the trajectory of the stills, periods of greater production and insertion in the tourist market. Through documentary surveys and observations made in field visits, the research has a qualitative approach with a descriptive and exploratory purpose, a methodology that allows us to address issues surrounding the articulations between heritage, identity and tourism.
