SUMMARY:

This study aimed to map the micropolitics of the work process of rural nurses in the
development of their care practices. It is a qualitative study anchored in Sanna's conceptual
framework on the work process in nursing and the theoretical-methodological cartography of
Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. Data production took place between November and
December 2022 and September 2024 through discursive interviews and participant
observation of the work process of eight rural nurses, selected through intentional sampling.
The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and complemented with field notes. The
organization and analysis of the data were mediated by Foucault's discourse analysis and the
analytical flowchart proposed by Merhy, with the data interpreted in light of the theoretical
and conceptual frameworks adopted in this study. The study was approved by the Research
Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, under report number
5.695.462. As a result of the analysis process, four discursive blocks were constructed: The
network of care practices developed by rural nurses: approaches and distances from generalist
practice; "There are rural professionals who don't want to get their hands dirty": the hard lines that cross the micropolitics of the rural nurse's work processes; The establishment of bonds as
points producing lines of flight; and The constitution of the rural nurse as a subject. The
reflections developed from the discursive blocks allowed for an understanding that the care
practices of rural nurses are organized around spontaneous demand and protocol-based
practices based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, resembling care provided
in urban contexts, and are anchored in the curative biomedical model, devaluing health
promotion actions and nursing consultations as instruments for altering this paradigm, which
outlines various hard lines in nursing care, ultimately becoming more centered on light-hard
technologies than on the light technologies of care. However, the establishment of bonds with
the rural population constituted points of rupture of these hard lines, tracing lines of flight
centered on light technologies, with the potential to provide better-qualified care, based on
comprehensiveness. The rural nurse, in turn, emerges as a subject from the intersection of
these lines, through dual constructions and the identification they develop with rural nursing.
It is urgent that efforts be made to increase the user-nurse bond in order to achieve
comprehensiveness in all practices that this professional develops, as well as to strengthen
health promotional actions, aiming to change the care logic of rural Family Health Strategies
(ESFs). Cartographic care emerges with this intent, being thought out and developed in the
interpersonal relationships established with users, promoting good therapeutic adherence,
improvement in self-care, enhancement of quality of life, among other benefits that can be
achieved for the rural population through the actions of rural nurses.
