SUMMARY:

Patients in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery have a high incidence of the nursing diagnosis Impaired Physical Mobility. In this context, analyzing the content of the diagnosis through a Middle-Range Theory allows it to be more reliable and applicable to the context of clinical practice. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the nursing diagnosis Impaired Physical Mobility in patients undergoing cardiac surgeries. A methodological study was carried out in two stages: Construction of the middle-range theory of the diagnosis of Impaired Physical Mobility and content analysis by experts. The first phase of the study was operationalized through an integrative review of the literature on the subject, followed by the stages of creating conceptual and operational definitions; pictogram; elaboration of propositions; and establishment of causal relationships. Of the 26 studies included in the research, the following were identified: 03 essential attributes: Difficulty moving, Difficulty changing position and contracting muscles freely, Dependent physical movement; 04 Clinical antecedents: Reduced tolerance to physical effort, Angina pain, Peripheral muscle weakness and Prolonged time of bed restriction; and 08 Clinical Consequences: Change in gait, Difficulty turning, Reduction in range of motion, Limited muscular capacity to perform fine motor activities, Limited muscular capacity to perform gross motor activities, Dyspnea on exertion and Acute pain. The pictogram was created to elucidate the relationships present in the TMA. 05 propositions were also elaborated and finally, the causal relationships between the concepts found were determined in order to generate scientific robustness and practical applicability for the study. The theory was analyzed by 09 experts, through the Nominal Group technique. The domains were studied individually and evaluated according to clarity and suitability for the study, the data were organized in tables, containing the components of the diagnosis after content analysis. It is concluded that the analysis of the diagnosis Impaired Physical Mobility in patients in the postoperative period of cardiac surgeries allowed a robust knowledge of the phenomena inherent to the professional practice of the nurse in the care of this population, contributing to the strengthening of nursing as a science and profession.
