AREA: Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional
SUMMARY:

Introduction: Gait and postural balance deficits affect between 50-80% of all stroke
survivors, and are related to hemiparesis and altered sensory function, reduced stride
length, longer support in the less affected lower limb, and a prolonged swing phase
due to reduced ankle, knee and hip range of motion in the more affected lower limb.
An alternative for analyzing the kinematic parameters of gait are systems with inertial
measurement units (IMUs), which can be worn and attached to different body
segments Objetive:This study aims to verify the validity, reliability and usability of a
portable device for kinematic gait assessment in post-stroke individuals (DAMA).
Methodology: This is a study of the measurement properties of a device with 2 inertial
sensors to measure the angular displacement (in degrees) of the ankle during gait,
developed at the Technology Laboratory of the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do
Norte (IFRN) and will be tested for psychometric properties at the Gait Intervention and
Analysis Laboratory (LIAM) at the UFRN Physiotherapy Department. The Qualisys
Motion Capture System® will be used as the reference measure, and the sample will
consist of 10 patients. The data from the two systems will be collected simultaneously,
ensuring that during the 10-meter Walk Test, the times are identical. We will
statistically analyze the test (first measurement) and the retest (repeat measurements,
after a 7-day interval) for reliability. For intra-examiner reliability, we will check the
intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) considering the two-way mixed model and
absolute agreement (ICC (3.1)) for all the kinematic outcomes obtained, at a 95%
confidence interval. Kendall's Tau test will be used to analyze validity, which will make
it possible to verify the correlation between the kinematic outcomes obtained by the
device and by Qualisys. For usability-related outcomes, an authorial form on the
operability of the device and user satisfaction (B- QUEST 2.0) will be used. Expected
Results: The hope is to provide a device with satisfactory reliability and validity
measures, that meets users' expectations and has accessible usability. In this way,
real-time gait assessments can be further explored to monitor gait parameters, as well
as to provide real-time biofeedback during gait training of individuals after stroke.
