CONTEXTUAL ASPECTS ASSOCIATED WITH MOBILITY AND LIFE SPACE IN COMMUNITY-DWELLING OLDER ADULTS: SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND FINDINGS FROM IMIAS STUDY
Life-space mobility; contextual aspects, elderly.
Introduction: Living Space Mobility (LSM) restriction of community-dwelling elderly can predict the need for future health care. Contextual aspects represent the complete history of an individual's life: social, environmental and personal issues. Regarding health in an extended way, it is necessary to understand how the context in which elderly live interferes in their mobility in the life space.
Objectives: To identify the environmental and personal contextual aspects that interfere or modify the mobility in the life-space of community elderly. To know through a systematic review about contextual aspects that interfere or modify the LSM. And to identify the associations between Life-Space Assessment (LSA) and life-time adversity in old age in five populations with different social, economic and cultural characteristics.
Methods: Cross-sectional observational study. 2000 were evaluated in 5 different locations (Kingston and Saint Hyacinthe in Canada, Tirana in Albania, Manizales in Colombia and Natal in Brazil), through LSA, sociodemographic aspects, health and physical performance, neighborhood characteristics, life course adversity and social supports. Data analysis was performed using the statistical program SPSS 20.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Science) considering significance level 5%. Multiple linear regression was performed for possible associations. In parallel to this study, a systematic review was developed following PROSPERO protocol no. CRD42017064552.
Expected Results: It is expected to increase knowledge about contextual factors that interfere in LSM of community-dwelling elderly, so that the contextual approach could be used with more property by all health professionals.
