This research proposes the development of an information portal based on the mapping of useful information from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), with a view to optimizing the flow of information and reducing demands on the Administrative Secretariat of the Rector´s Office. Justified by the need to improve information management in the institution, promoting greater autonomy for users and optimizing access to information that is fragmented or not covered in the various websites of the institution. Methodologically, we will adopt a qualitative and exploratory approach, with an inductive method and monographic procedure. Data collection will be carried out through documentary and bibliographic research and focus groups with members of the academic and administrative community. The theoretical basis includes concepts from Information Science, Institutional Communication, Information Management and Digital Curation. We hope to demonstrate that the lack of a centralized channel compromises the effectiveness of the information flow in the institution. The study aims to reveal that an information portal can act as a viable solution for quick access to relevant information, reducing repetitive queries and allowing the Administrative Secretariat of the Rector´s Office to direct its efforts towards strategic activities. The research will contribute to Information Science with regard to information management and digital curation, and can be replicated in other public organizations.
