SUMMARY:

Open science facilitates the dissemination of scientific knowledge, promoting the democratization of knowledge and contributing to the quality, transparency and reproducibility of research. In the health field, open science practices and initiatives can generate benefits for researchers and society in general. A striking example was the COVID-19 pandemic, during which open science practices such as data and preprint sharing, open access publishing and collaboration practices among researchers played a fundamental role in combating the global health crisis. Therefore, it is essential that health researchers develop skills so that they can take advantage of the different open science initiatives and tools. In view of this, this research aims to define the characteristics of an Open Science Skills Development Program for medical and multidisciplinary residents of the Liga Norte Riograndense Contra o Câncer. This is a quantitative and qualitative research project with an exploratory nature, using bibliographic research as its method. Data collection will be conducted through a semi- structured questionnaire with the institution's medical and multidisciplinary residents. Initially, the aim is to understand the characteristics, needs, and professional, academic, and scientific context of these residents, identifying the open science practices and professional skills needed to work in the open science ecosystem in health, together with the mapping of existing initiatives, programs, and strategies for the development of open science skills in the health area, in order to structure a proposal for an Open Science Skills Development Program aligned with their reality and that of the institution. More than certification, the program aims to provide participants with solid knowledge, maximizing scientific advances and expanding the social impact of open science.
