RESUMO:

Amid a society that is increasingly aware that the conservation of natural resources is necessary for the maintenance of the conditions required for the development of humanity, policies on environmental planning and management practices, at their various scales, are still deficits. Such a situation is causally related to the scarcity of consistent / adequate scientific studies on environmental conditions, natural resources and their uses. Within this demand is Geography. Developed from a systemic perspective, the concept of Landscape, due to its properties as a synthesis unit, has been treated as a planning unit, in which different methods and approaches of studies are considered, which are considered more adequate for a diagnosis with in land use planning. In the dissertation presented, this assertion is taken as a master line, which defines the object of the research: the landscape units (Geofácies) of Seridó Potiguar; and his methodology: the Bertrand landscape taxonomic system (1968), allied to Tricart's Ecodynamic theory (1977) and the dynamic, temporal and spatial classification of Bolos (1981); and its purpose: to support territorial planning. As a fundamental parameter, the reflections of the aforementioned French biogeographer and the adaptations of Diniz, Oliveira and Bernardino (2015) to his methodological outline were taken as a fundamental parameter. Based on this, this study aims to map the landscape units (geofácies) of Seridó Potiguar and to perform an integrated analysis of their socioenvironmental dynamics. In agreement with Bertrand (2004), the landscape physiognomy provides the best criteria to determine the geofácies boundaries, considering that the vegetation / soil is the three-dimensional synthesis of the various processes and interactions that occur in the environment. For this delimitation, the techniques of geoprocessing and remote sensing were used, through the vectorization of cartographic data and high resolution images. As preliminary results, we emphasize the observation of eleven geofácies, distributed in two geocomplexes, which are described / analyzed in a partial way up to this point. In this analysis, or rather, synthesis, the variables of the physical environment (ecological potential), the biological components (biological exploitation) and the historical evolution / human activities (anthropic action) are considered inseparably in the landscape, producing, in sum , a diagnosis of the complex and often conflicting relations between man and nature, that is, a situational picture of great value for territorial planning / environmental planning.
