SMART CITIES IN THE BRAZILIAN SEMI-ARID REGION: REFLECTIONS AND ANALYSES ON CAICÓ - RN

This study aims to analyze how the actions of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and the Local Innovation Ecosystem (LIE) contribute to transforming Caicó - RN into a smart city, considering the needs of the local population. The ongoing methodology is qualitative and exploratory, involving a literature review on the study's keywords, mapping of HEIs and research groups working on the smart city theme, and field research with semi-structured interviews with local managers, professors, researchers, SEBRAE representatives, and community leaders. The expected results include insights into the actions of HEIs and the LIE in Caicó, the partnerships established, ongoing initiatives, and social demands for a smart city. Furthermore, the findings are expected to contribute to the strengthening of public innovation policies and provide input for urban development in the Brazilian Semi-arid region through intelligent and sustainable practices.
