GEOTOURIST ROUTING FOR THE COSTA BRANCA REGION IN THE BRAZILIAN SEMI-ARID REGION
Geotourism; Geodiversity; Geotourism itineraries; Costa Branca.
The Costa Branca of the Brazilian Semiarid Region is home to a variety of unique landscapes that demonstrate its significant potential for the development and expansion of tourism. However, despite this finding, tourism demand in the region is still in its early stages, with a greater emphasis on the sun and beach sector. However, given the exceptional geodiversity content that fosters the horizons of this area, geotourism is considered a relevant possibility. The term, which is unfamiliar in the tourism industry and emerging in scientific research, presents itself as an aspiring segment, which differentiates itself from other segments by proposing, in addition to visual appreciation and leisure, a series of conditions that help the visitor to know and interpret the physical-natural context that surrounds the destination. Notably, geotourism itineraries are tools that can fulfill this function since they bring together points of interest of the geoheritage and their respective descriptions, addressing not only tourist but also geoscientific interest. From this perspective, the main objective of this manuscript is to present a geotourism itinerary for the Costa Branca region through the incorporation of geosites valued for their scientific, aesthetic, educational and other content, considered as places of interest that reveal a promising environment in the scope of geotourism and tourism in other segments. To achieve this result, we adopted a methodology based on the following steps: I - in the selection of points of interest; II - in the bibliographic and cartographic review of the spatial cutout; III - in field research to collect additional data; IV - and finally, in the elaboration of itineraries in a GIS environment.
