SUMMARY:

This Master's qualification aims the development of the structural design, based on numerical analysis, of a scramjet demonstrator, burning hydrogen gas (H2) as fuel, during the flight conditions at 20 km altitude and speed of 1710 m/s (corresponding to Mach number 5.8). The scramjet vehicle is divided into three sections: compression, combustion and expansion. The determination of the thermodynamic properties and velocity (Mach number) of the atmospheric air, from the leading edge to the trailing edge of the scramjet vehicle, can be obtained using the shock wave theory, the (Rayleigh) theory of heat addition in one-dimensional flow and the theories of Prandtl-Meyer expansion wave coupled to area ratio, which can be applied in the compression, combustion and expansion sections, respectively. In the structural analysis, ¼ of the scramjet vehicle geometry was used, due to the longitudinal and orthogonal symmetries, consequently reducing the computational effort. It was defined to use the structural materials of the scramjet vehicle based on the materials used in several structural analyzes developed of the scramjet vehicle under development in several research institutions. Inconel 718 was used on the leading and trailing edges as well as the structure of the combustion chamber. Aluminum 7075 was used in the compression and expansion ramps and also on the sides of the vehicle. Finally, 304 stainless steel was used in the beams (U-profile) and in the spar, internal structures of the scramjet vehicle. The Solidworks CAD software was used in the dimensional design and the geometry was exported to the ANSYS Mechanical CAE software, to carry out the structural analysis. After a study of mesh convergence, von-Mises stress, von-Mises strain and total displacement were obtained.
