EDUCATIONAL PROCESSES OF THE POTIGUARA KATU PEOPLE: RELATIONSHIP WITH THE TERRITORY AND STATE POLICIES
Potiguara Katu indigenous people; educational processes; Territory; State; Rio Grande do Norte.
This thesis investigates the educational processes of the Potiguara Katu people, whose territory is located on the southern coast of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. I sought to understand the indigenous people's conception of education, their relationship with the territory and the impacts caused by Brazilian state policy. As methodological tools, I used bibliographical research and, in particular, the knowledge and experience that indigenous people shared with me, based on their experience in the Katu village and also through semi-structured interviews. Educational processes permeate various dimensions of indigenous life, related to their own way of life, and are transmitted between generations through family relationships and community life, independently of the school itself. Likewise, there are educational processes revived by the Potiguara Katu people since their ethnic strengthening, dating back to the beginning of the 21st century. Therefore, I discussed the relationship of these educational processes with the right to Indigenous Territory and to a specific and differentiated education in their schools.
