SUMMARY:
Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a developmental defect of enamel that affects one or more permanent first molars and may also affect permanent incisors. Patients with MIH may present hypersensitivity, post-eruptive fractures and rapid progression of caries lesions, increasing the need for preventive and restorative treatments. Some dental development defects have been associated with malocclusions, which directly impacts orthodontic strategies. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the possible association between IMH and occlusal changes in children in the mixed dentition. The sample will consist of children aged between 8 and 12, seen at public universities and private clinics. The evaluation will be carried out using intraoral photographs from the patients' orthodontic documentation. For the analysis of occlusal alterations, the criteria adapted from the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) will be used and for the diagnosis of MIH, the recommendations of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD) will be followed. The data will be analyzed using the chi-square test and Fisher's exact test to qualitatively compare patients with and without MIH in relation to the types of occlusal alterations. In addition, a logistic regression model will be constructed to evaluate the factors that influence the development of these alterations.
