SUMMARY:

The activity of shrimp farming refers to the creation of shrimp and is quite expressive in the region of northeastern Brazil, mainly in the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. A dilemma related to this economic activity is the considerable amount of water used to maintain the farms, given the high organic load, so that water changes are necessary to maintain the quality of oxygen and nutrients. However, the inadequate disposal of this water on a continuous basis can lead to chronic bioaccumulation and eutrophication. The use of microalgae to aid in the treatment of wastewater, linked to the biorefinery process for the generation of products with high added value from the biomass produced, proves to be a very relevant alternative. Biomass can be applied in several areas, with emphasis on the production of biocolorants, which can be applied in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and food industries. In this work, the blue-green cyanobacterium Synechococcus nidulans, belonging to the Cyanophyta division, will be cultivated in Zarrouk medium diluted with different percentages (20%, 30% and 50%) in water from an organic shrimp pond to compare with the culture in medium Traditional Zarrouk. The cultures will be carried out with a photoperiod of 12 hours light/dark at 25°C and with aeration. The main objective of the work is to evaluate the production of microalgal biomass under the mentioned conditions, in order to evaluate the potential for reuse of water from the pond for the production of organic shrimp for the production of biomass and extraction of phycocyanin, a natural pigment, belonging to the group of phycobiliproteins, present in microalgae of the genus Synechococcus.
