CONSTRUCTION AND VALIDATION OF A FALL PREVENTION PROTOCOL IN THE EMERGENCY CARE UNIT OF A TRAUMA HOSPITAL
Falls accidents, Hospital care, Nursing care.
Falls in hospitals are a clinical aggravating factor, especially in emergency departments, dueto patient vulnerability. Polytraumatized patients, experiencing intense pain, movementlimitations, and medication use, are at a higher risk of falls, which can worsen their clinicalcondition, prolong recovery, and increase hospitalization time. The implementation of a fallprevention protocol is essential to reduce complications, enhance safety levels, andstrengthen the culture of patient protection. However, to ensure its effectiveness, theadherence of multidisciplinary teams and the implementation of specific training programsaimed at identifying risk factors and assessing the impact of adopted measures are crucial. This study aims to develop and validate a fall prevention protocol for the emergencydepartment of a trauma reference hospital. The research, with a quantitative approach, will beconducted in three stages: 1) Scope Review, which will analyze the scientific literature toidentify effective practices and tools for fall prevention; 2) Protocol Development, based onthe best evidence, providing guidelines for identifying at-risk patients and implementingpreventive strategies; 3) Validation, where specialists will assess the clarity, applicability, andreliability of the protocol using the Content Validity Index (CVI). The study will beconducted at Hospital Estadual Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel, in Rio Grande do Norte, withvalidation by specialized professionals. Once validated, the protocol will contribute toreducing falls, improving healthcare quality, and ensuring patient safety.
