ABSTRACT

Introduction: Assistance in the parturition process has undergone major transformations since the end of the 19th century. Childbirth, which was traditionally and culturally assisted at home by midwives, respecting female protagonism, began to be gradually transferred to the hospital environment with the capitalist and technological development of the last century, strengthening the biomedical model. Thus, it is perceived that the care practice is far from the ideal advocated by scientific evidence in the implementation of good obstetric practices. In particular, the offer and guidance on the proper use of non-pharmacological pain relief methods in the obstetric sector run into numerous difficulties. However, these can be resolved through better organization of time, appropriation of the theme and construction of a care protocol that standardizes professional practices. Objective: To build and validate a protocol for the use of non-pharmacological pain relief methods in the delivery room of a reference public maternity hospital in Paraíba. Methodology: This is a methodological study with a mixed approach, focused on the construction and validation of the content and appearance of the protocol for the use of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief in the delivery room of a reference public maternity hospital in Paraíba. The construction and validation of the content and appearance of the protocol will be oriented according to Pasquali's adapted psychometric framework, organized into theoretical, empirical and analytical procedures. Data collection should take place between April and July of 2023, after being approved by the Ethics and Research Committee. The study will respect the human condition and will comply with all the requirements of autonomy, non-maleficence, justice and equity, among other explicit requirements in resolution 466/2012 of the Ministry of Health. Expected results: It is believed that the development of a protocol will enable a more humane and safer assistance to women in the parturition process, since professional nurses will have a standardization of care based on scientific evidence. Furthermore, the technological product will also serve as a teaching-learning instrument, which will collaborate with in-service teaching, as well as for research in nursing.
