SUMMARY:

Syphilis is a systemic Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), curable and exclusive to humans, caused by the Treponema pallidum bacterium, which is transmitted through unprotected sexual contact and from mother to baby during pregnancy, in cases where the pregnant woman has not been treated or has been inadequately treated. Primary Health Care (PHC) plays a key role in the comprehensive care of people with syphilis, promoting prevention, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and surveillance of cases. Since 2016, we have experienced a syphilis epidemic in Brazil attributed, in part, to the increase in testing coverage, reduced condom use, and the resistance of health professionals to the administration of benzylpenicillin in PHC. Faced with this situation, the goal of this study is to elaborate and implement a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that contributes to the adherence and safety of the teams in the administration of benzylpenicillin in PHC in the city of Parnamirim/RN. The present study is a type- action research, with a qualitative approach, that have been carried out in the city of Parnamirim/RN. Our research subjects are the technical teams of Primary Health Care and Health and Surveillance of SMS Parnamirim, besides the teams of Family Health Units that do not administer benzodiazepines, that do not administer benzylpenicillin. Information will be collected through focus groups. For data organization and categorization, Atlas ti. and as a method of interpretation, the content analysis developed by Laurence Bardin will be used. With this study we hope to build an instrument that strengthens the management of syphilis in PHC. Thus, we will seek the qualification of comprehensive care people with syphilis with greater safety in the administration of benzylpenicillin, providing users immediate access to treatment and breaking the chain of transmission.
