Evaluation model for digital educational games to support selection and pedagogical use in the early years of elementary school

The use of digital educational games (DEGs) has gained prominence as an innovative practice that not only motivates students but also makes learning more engaging, integrating fun and knowledge. However, despite the widespread availability of DEGs, their use in the classroom still poses a challenge. This research aims to develop and validate a DEG evaluation model to assist elementary school teachers in selecting games for use in their classrooms, considering pedagogical, technical, and player experience aspects, in order to enhance learning and adapt resources to students' needs and interests. The research is applied in nature. Its objectives are exploratory, and its procedures are classified as a case study using mixed methods. The study will be conducted with volunteer elementary school teachers from the Natal Municipal Department of Education (SME) and will proceed in five main stages: (1) conducting a systematic literature review to identify DEG evaluation strategies, models, and methods; (2) developing a DEG evaluation model aimed at elementary school teachers; (3) applying the model with teachers working in this field; (4) validating the model with the teachers; and (5) analyzing participants' perceptions regarding the proposal. The model is expected to help teachers identify the essential criteria for evaluating the quality and suitability of a game before its application in the classroom, contributing to ongoing teacher education and promoting greater autonomy in the use of DEGs in the educational context.
